We had an awesome first day of school. We made Welcome Back to School Visors, made and signed a promise* to each other regarding our behavior at school, and we used a checklist with clipboards to do a GES School Tour. The students listened to and responded to a great book called Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes. We talked about our feelings about going back to school and did a great activity called Find a Friend. Your child's Find a Friend chart is in the Friday Folder. Besides asking your scholar about how we did the Find a Friend Game also ask about the foil and pipe cleaner team building experience we shared. I took notes and recorded their suggestions for what kind of teacher they want. I told them that I would try my best, just like I expect them to also try their best at school. I think this is going to be a great year. I look forward to explaining all kinds of things to you at Back to School Night on September 9 at 6:00.
If your child brings his or her Friday Folder to school tomorrow, he or she will get a treasure from the “treasure box”. (...and it’s stocked…) Good luck and thank you.
* Our Promise to Each Other
When we care about each other and our classroom,
We are kind and respectful,
We listen carefully,
We help each other learn,
We always try our best,
We raise our hand,
And we have fun together.
We keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
We stand up for ourselves and others.
When someone asks us to stop, we stop.
We do all of this even when no one is watching!
How did your child's first time in the cafeteria for lunch go?
How were the three recesses!?
Were they glad to see and/or make new friends?
Are they feeling better and less nervous about school?
BTW: Today was a tear free day! All of the students seemed to have a nice, calm, long day. Bet everyone sleeps well tonight! All my best, Mary Berelson
