We have been studying All ABout Matter during our weekly Science Lab time. Today we worked as engineers to see how we could build a tower from cups, popsicle sticks, rubber bands, straws, cardboard, and tin foil. We recorded how our tower looked and which PROPERTIES (like soft/hard, rough/smooth, heavy/light, flexible/rigid, etc.) were important for its stability. Working in pairs offered us a chance to take turns and share our ideas with another friend.
The students and I are going on a short walk to my house after lunch tomorrow for an educational and fun field trip. I live very close to the school. All of the students already have walking field trip permission slips on file. So we're all good to go. I just wanted to let you know. We'll be gone from 12:45 - 3:00.
On Friday during our normally scheduled Kindergarten/First Grade Movement Center time of 9:30 - 10:15, we will be doing our annual sewing project. There will be 45 little hands all trying to whip stitch a little stocking with real needles and thread - all at the same time, so obviously the more grown-up hands that can assist would be very helpful. If any parent would like to help with this special event, here's a thank you to you.
I was hoping that it was going to be cold enough to perhaps warrant a 'Snow Day' today, but Alas! it ended up being a rainy day at school. This was the one recess that wasn't called 'Indoor Recess' and I had the pleasure of being on recess duty.
