We have been using our names to really learn a lot about the ABCs. Recognizing, reading, and writing our names is an important kindergarten skill. Every morning we sign in, find our magnetic name and answer the daily question. We read our friends' names to understand the graph and learn about the alphabet and counting and math that way too. We carefully and beautifully do art with our names. We practice handwriting our name the 'school way'. We build our names with blocks. We use our names to label our big traced dancing bodies. Below each person are two sentences that the kids dictated telling us what they like to do and what they like to eat. We hunted within the text for the letters of that person's name, in rainbow order.
We have been having a great time this first week in kindergarten getting to know each other and learning how to be students together. We are good at sharing, taking turns and listening to each other. We already know so much about the right way to behave at school.
This blog is a place for you to check out what is happening at school, use some of the Learning Links and further explore the other informational tabs at the top of the site to help your child be as successful as possible at GES!
