ANIMALS - TWO BY TWO
Every year in kindergarten at GES we study Animals 2 by 2. We will spend a couple of weeks beginning this in-depth, UC Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science created program with FISH. In kindergarten we spend a lot of effort DESCRIBING, NOTING DETAILS, AND COMPARING and CONTRASTING. These are important foundational skills. With the Animals 2 by 2 Unit, we'll compare FISH - goldfish vs. guppies; MULLOSKS - land snails vs. aquatic snails; ISOPODS - pillbugs vs. sowbugs, and INSECTS - ladybug vs. butterfly. Besides describing and comparing, we will learn two other important science basics - 1) All species have a life cycle which can be predicted, described and labeled, and 2) Species that lay few eggs or have only one or a couple live offspring at a time generally care for the baby/babies until maturation whereas species that lay hundreds or thousands of eggs generally leave the offspring who are capable of fending for themselves.
