The month of February offers a chance to send and receive Valentine's cards to and from our classmates. On the back of our February Newsletter that you'll get in your Friday Folder, you'll find a list of your classmates' names and some instructions on how to do Valentine's Day, Glenshire Elementary Style.
100th Day Homework - your newsletter also includes directions for how to help your child prepare his or her 100 Day Homework - click on the Math tab above to see some great examples of last year's students' 100 Day Collections.
I LOVE teaching about MLK Jr to kindergartners! Why? Because Dr. King was all about changing unfair laws in peaceful ways and 5 and 6 year olds are experts at observing if things are fair or not! - so the theme fits the audience. We learned how MLKJr always instructed his followers to meet any hate with love. That must've been hard for them just like it's hard for us. We practice at school everyday trying to be kind and understanding. Recess is a great time for us to put in to play what we talk about during class.
We've enjoyed several different biographies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
During a beautiful rendition of of his life, Martin's Big Words, one of our clever little students hopefully asked, right after we read that he had died, "This is fiction, right, Mrs.B?" We all agreed that we wish it were so.
I hope you are having a great vacation from school. Have you been ice skating?
I've been skating nearly everyday at either Prosser Dam Reservoir or on the Glenshire Pond.
Here is a video of our darling Winter Show of Holidays Around the World. Enjoy.
